Compare strategies

Pick two or three of the strategies and see what the variations change, over the same dates and with the same costs: growth, falls, risk, how much each trades, how concentrated it is, and how many stocks they share.

Strategies to compare (two or three)
Shortcuts:

Growth of $10,000

Fall from the highest value so far

Side by side

Return, risk and Sharpe over the period chosen above. Turnover and trading costs: the backtest a year (the first purchase of the book left out), the forward test so far. Concentration: the latest close.

Holdings they share

At the latest close. Overlap by weight: the sum, over the stocks both hold, of the smaller of the two weights (100% would mean identical portfolios).

Results before go-live are a backtest: the rules applied to historical prices after the fact. Since going live, every decision has been made at the day’s close with the rules unchanged. The whole-record figures mix the two and are not a forward-tested result.
